Etsy Profit Calculator

See exactly what you keep after Etsy’s listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing, the regulatory operating fee, and optional 15% offsite ads.

Etsy charges sellers in five separate places, and most of them are a percentage of your price plus the shipping you charge. That is why a sale almost never equals profit. Enter your numbers below and ListingMath itemises every cut.

Worked example: a $24.99 Etsy listing

With the default values loaded above — a $24.99 item, $8.00 to make, $5.00 shipping charged and $6.50 shipping you actually pay — Etsy collects fees on the $29.99 total of price plus shipping:

Total Etsy fees: $3.37. After your product cost and the shipping you actually pay, you keep $12.12 — about a 40% margin.

Now tick Offsite ads applied: Etsy takes another 15% ($4.50), and your take-home drops to $7.62. Same sale, a third less profit.

How the formula works

Etsy takes fees in five separate places. Most are a percentage of your item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Here's the exact breakdown ListingMath uses:

Revenue = sale price + shipping charged
Listing fee = $0.20 per listing
Transaction fee = 6.5% × revenue
Payment processing = 3% × revenue + $0.25
Regulatory operating fee = 0.25% × revenue
Offsite ads (if applicable) = 15% × revenue
Profit = revenue − all fees − product cost − actual shipping paid

Offsite ads only apply when Etsy drove the sale through an external ad. Sellers with $10K+ in annual sales cannot opt out.

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Etsy charge sellers?+

Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, payment processing of about 3% + $0.25, a 0.25% regulatory operating fee, and — for ad-driven sales — 15% offsite ads. Rates vary by region.

Do I pay Etsy fees on shipping too?+

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the total of item price + shipping you charge, not just the item. That's why free shipping can quietly hurt your margin — you still pay the fee on the phantom shipping cost.

Are offsite ads mandatory?+

If your Etsy shop makes less than $10,000 USD in the past 12 months, you can opt out. Above $10K, offsite ads are mandatory on Etsy-driven ad sales. The 15% fee only applies when the sale is attributed to an external ad.

What's the regulatory operating fee?+

Etsy introduced this in 2024 to cover regulatory compliance costs in some regions. It's a small percentage (about 0.25% in the US) applied to your revenue. Rate varies by country.

How can I improve my Etsy margin?+

Raise prices, reduce actual shipping cost, batch shipments to save time, avoid deep discounts that stack with offsite ads, and calculate every listing's real margin before scaling.
